Who We Are
The Southern Center for Human Rights (SCHR) is working for equality, justice, and dignity in our criminal justice system. The mission of SCHR is to end capital punishment, mass incarceration, and other criminal justice practices that are used to control the lives of poor people, people of color, and other marginalized groups in the Southern United States. We do this through death penalty representation, impact litigation, policy advocacy, and public education.

- SCHR provides full legal representation only to those people facing the death penalty.
We provide brief advice to attorneys handling death penalty cases.
We provide pro se legal assistance for individuals in prisons and jails.
The Southern Center for Human Rights also works with family members of the incarcerated through it’s Fairness for Prisoners’ Families program, which is a membership-based organization that holds monthly meetings in Atlanta and Savannah. Call (404) 681-5576 for more information.
