Referral Service – Delaware County Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service

Who We Are

The Delaware County Bar Association operates a program called the Lawyer Referral Service. Lawyers who are members of the Bar Association join “panels” based on the areas of law which they practice. Presently, those panels include:

• Civil Panel (includes cases such as family law, personal injury, contract law, employment law, etc.)
• Criminal Panel

When you call the Bar Association at 610-566-6625, extension 221, for a lawyer referral, you will be asked several questions so that the right referral can be made. Prior to calling, be sure to know the type of case in which you are involved and let the Lawyer Referral Service know if you have any special needs, such as wanting a lawyer who speaks a language other than English or who has an office close to where you live. Remember, the Bar Association does not have lawyers on staff to assist you; you are calling to get a referral to a lawyer who can give you the appropriate help.

Once you have received your referral, you can contact that lawyer and arrange a mutually convenient time to meet. (When you call the lawyer’s office, be sure to let him/her know that you came through the Lawyer Referral Service of the Bar Association.) At that first meeting, you will be charged $20.00 for the first half hour of consultation. (Attorneys who participate in the Lawyer Referral Program agree to accept $20.00 for the first half hour.) However, you and your lawyer need to discuss hourly fees and future costs which may be associated with your case.

There is no charge for calling the Delaware County Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service. However, please remember that the staff of the Lawyer Referral Service are not lawyers and cannot provide legal advice to you.
