Who We Are

Pace Women’s Justice Center (PWJC) provides free legal help for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse. PWJC provides free legal representation, advice, information and referrals to victims of abuse on various types of cases including orders of protection, divorce, custody, support, and legal issues relating to elder abuse.

PWJC provides a variety of legal services for those experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault or elder abuse.

PWJC staff speak Spanish and other languages and utilize a language access line to ensure appropriate communication and access to services.
Income Guidelines
PWJC does not have income eligibility quidelines. We do prioritize legal assistance for those who cannot otherwise afford legal assistance. For the Moderate Means Panel, clients must submit an application and must qualify for referral to the panel which is dependent on income and access to funds.

Eligibility Restrictions
For help, you must have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault or elder abuse. In the Elder Justice Program, clients must be 60 or older.

Description of Services
PWJC provides a variety of legal services for those experiences domestic violence, sexual assault or elder abuse. On our legal helpline we provide legal information and referrals; the Family Law Unit provides full legal representation in Family and Supreme Court matters including order of protection, contested and uncontested divorce, custody and support matters; we also provide legal representation and advice and counsel and legal advocacy within the criminal justice system; the Elder Justice Unit provides legal representation for clients who are 60 years and older who have experienced abuse ( these cases are not restricted to intimate partner violence cases ) ; the Moderate Means Program provides referrals for qualified applicants to a panel of attorneys who have agreed to take family law and matrimonial cases on a low bono pay scale; the Walk-in Legal Clinic provides short term legal representation and referrals both on a walk-in and appointment basis; the Family Court Legal Program provides legal information, advice and representation in ex-parte order of protection cases in family court.
Emergency Instructions
If you feel you need an order of protection you may walk-in to PWJC’s Family Court Legal Program in either the White Plains and Yonkers Family Courthouses to speak with an attorney. For other immediate legal needs, for example if you have been served with legal papers, you may walk-in to the Walk-in Legal Clinic at the Center’s main office or call for an appointment.
