Civil Mediation:
- DRS mediates the following types of cases:
- consumer/merchant
- landlord/tenant
- employer/employee
- business
- small claims
- family issues
- friends
- neighbors
- divorce (when each side has an attorney)
You can bring most disputes to DRS either before or after you have filed a lawsuit. Attorneys, real estate agents, and other professionals are welcome to attend the mediation. DRS has facilities available for the professional to talk privately with his or her client.
Parent/Teen Mediation:
Mediators meet at the Juvenile Boot Camp with the parents and their teenager who is incarcerated. They discuss how they will be able to live together when the youth is released. This process helps the parties resolve the current issues and set boundaries, and it helps teach the parties how to communicate with each other.
Victim/Offender Mediation:
If the victim wishes, in certain cases the victim meets with the mediator and the offender. This powerful process offers the victim the possibility of obtaining healing and closure regarding the offense. This opportunity is not available to the victim in any other setting. In the mediation, restitution may be worked out for the offender. This type of mediation allows the offender to face the victim, gives the offender the opportunity to “put a face to the crime”, and may also help deter the offender from repeating the crime.
Public Policy Mediation:
When multiple parties are in conflict (i.e. the refineries and the residents), DRS brings them together in several meetings to discuss the conflicted issues.
Corpus Christi Army Depot ADR Mediation Program:
This type of mediation concentrates on the interests of the parties rather than their legal positions. It promotes a healthy climate by advancing the interests of the continuing employment relationship.
