MEDOVI helps foreign-born victims of domestic violence and sexual assault get legal immigration status without relying on the abuser for sponsorship. If you have been abused by a spouse or an intimate partner or you are the victim of sexual assault, MEDOVI will provide you with a free lawyer to help you file the applications for immigration status that will allow you to live and work legally in the United States. Using the legal options provided by the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), MEDOVI can help you file a battered spouse self-petition or U Visa. MEDOVI services are available to women and men who have been physically or sexually abused.

MEDOVI services are free and may include:

• Help completing and filing VAWA Self-Petition and U-Visa applications
• Representation at immigration hearings
• Information and advice about your legal rights and options
• Helping you develop a plan to keep yourself safe
• Referrals to other programs in the community that may be able to help you
• Accompaniment to court hearings (criminal court, divorce court) and help through the criminal process

Starting on February 1, 2016, MEDOVI can now assist you with continuing your immigration process and in filing for additional family members. These services are not free, but are offered at a low-cost fee based on a sliding scale.
