Who We Are

LawNY® is a non-profit law firm that provides free civil legal services to low income people in 14 counties in western New York. LawNY® offices may be able to help you with problems such as housing, public benefits, family law  for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, consumer, and access to health care. Special projects provide legal help to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, victims of crime, Veterans and people living with HIV/AIDS.  The Bath office of Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. (LawNY®) helps qualified clients in two rural upstate New York counties – Allegany and Steuben.

Please contact LawNY. Eligibility guidelines are generally 200% of the federal poverty level, but vary by type of legal problem (due to requirements of different funding sources).

Description of Services
LawNY® provides civil legal help in the following areas: housing (eviction and foreclosure), public benefits (Unemployment Insurance, Social Security Disability and SSI, Veterans Disability benefits, public assistance, SNAP, Medicaid), family law (orders of protection, custody, support) for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, consumer debt (including bankruptcy), and access to health care. Special projects provide legal help to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, victims of crime, Veterans and people living with HIV/AIDS. With the help of volunteer attorneys and law students, LawNY can also assist low-income clients needing an uncontested divorce, a will/health care proxy/power of attorney, or a name change (for transgender clients).
