Who We Are

We help people (first-come, first served) prepare an answer to an Unlawful Detainer (Eviction) lawsuit against them.  NOTE:  Come in right away, as you may only have 5 days to file your answer, from the time you were served with the lawsuit papers.  We do not handle legal representation at this clinic, but, if you qualify, you can get a free lawyer here.

Sometimes we can help you start an eviction case.  We can help you file against someone you live with; or against a tenant if you own no more than one rental unit.

Please note, the clinic does not assist with notices, defaults or execution of judgments. You can get these services here.

***Clinics are closed on court holidays.  Check court holidays here

A video on how to act at your own trial can be seen here.

And a State Court video on how to resolve your Unlawful Detainer case in court can be seen here.

LASSD strengthens our community by fighting for justice. We provide low-income clients with free civil legal assistance, including legal advice and counsel, effective referrals, and legal representation. We are the largest poverty law firm serving San Diego County.  We can help with many types of legal problems that individuals face.  To thousands of San Diego residents living in poverty, justice is not an abstract ideal. It is food, shelter and protection. It is the difference between staying in poverty and getting out; between dependence and self-reliance. But without help, justice is often denied.  We can assist with the areas of law listed below.
