Who We Are

The Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) of The Legal Aid Society provides free legal assistance to low-income taxpayers who have disputes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance. The LITC is a program of The Legal Aid Society, an independent non-profit organization and is not affiliated with any government tax agency.

How to Get Help

At this time, The Legal Aid Society is offering remote services by phone to assist low-income taxpayers living in Manhattan with IRS problems occurring after the filing of a tax return. Call (212) 426-3013 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. for an appointment. Have all IRS letters and proof of your income on hand when you call.
