Who We Are
The Legal Action Center (LAC) performs impact litigation and provides legal services to HIV-positive people, persons with histories of alcohol and/or drug dependency, and persons with criminal records. LAC’s impact litigation focuses on issues involving discrimination, privacy and access to insurance coverage for health care.

LAC’s legal services assist HIV-positive people and their families with a variety of matters, such as HIV confidentiality and testing, discrimination based on HIV Status, criminal record, or alcoholic/drug history, government benefits, health care proxies, living wills. The Center also helps HIV+ individuals with criminal records get and clean up their rap sheets, get Certificates of Relief from Disabilities and Good Conduct, and learn how to overcome discriminatory barriers to jobs and housing.
