Who We Are

Landlord Tenant Resource Center Temporary Phone Line: 202-780-2575.The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center is taking necessary precautions to protect our clients, resource center customers, staff, and volunteers from COVID-19.   As such, our court-based Landlord Tenant Resource Center in conjunction with the D.C. Superior Court Landlord Tenant Branch, is closed until further notice. We will be operating remotely through January 11th, 2021.Effective immediately, we have created a telephone system that enables us to confer remotely with customers seeking help from our Landlord Tenant Resource Center during this time. Pro se tenants and small landlords with Landlord Tenant issues and/or other housing-related matters will be prompted in English and in Spanish to leave a message for a Pro Bono Center attorney.  Pro se litigants will receive a return call from a Pro Bono Center housing attorney providing legal information no later than the next business day.  Thank you for helping to spread the word.

The Landlord Tenant Resource Center provides free legal information to both unrepresented landlords and tenants who have residential housing disputes in the District of Columbia. Please see our attached flyer for more information.

Volunteers attorneys at the center:

  • Help self–represented persons understand court proceedings
  • Assist self–represented persons prepare pleadings
  • Coach self–represented persons how to best present cases in court
  • Provide information on how to obtain continuances and retain counsel
  • Make referrals to legal service providers in appropriate cases
  • Inform low–income litigants of financial and other social service resources that might be available and refer them to the appropriate resources

Information
Please note that due to a high demand for services, it may be necessary for the Resource Center to limit the number of customers it sees each day and close intake before 12 p.m. Even if intake is closed early, all customers who have court dates that day or emergency matters (for example, a live writ, lock-out, or no heat) will be seen if they sign in before 12 p.m. The Resource Center will, whenever possible, provide written materials and referrals to customers who cannot be seen that day.
