Who We Are
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) is a California leader with national impact made of diverse immigrant families and individuals who act as agents of social change to achieve a world with freedom of mobility, full human rights, and true participatory democracy. We seek to achieve a just society fully inclusive of immigrants. We organize and serve individuals, institutions and coalitions to build power, transform public opinion, and change policies to achieve full human, civil and labor rights. Guided by the power, love, and vision of our community, CHIRLA embraces and drives progressive social change.

CHIRLA provides a variety of immigration legal services at low cost to the community, including naturalization, DACA renewal, family petitions, asylum requests, and deportation defense. At a time when such services are scarce, CHIRLA works to give the high-quality legal representation that our community requires.

CHIRLA is recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). Licensed attorneys supervise all legal staff, including accredited representatives and paralegals. We do not make appointments by phone. Prospective clients have to come to our weekly legal clinics, held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, to receive a one-hour consultation. The clinics open at 8 a.m., and it’s necessary to wait in line. Each clinic has a limited number of appointments, so it helps to arrive early. If you receive a consultation, there may be a nominal cost on a sliding scale.
