Intake Hours and Guidelines 

American Gateways conducts screenings for services on a walk-in basis.

Screenings are done at the Austin office from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Thursday.

No appointment is necessary.

We strongly prefer in-person applications.

However, if you absolutely must apply by phone, please call (512) 478-0546 extension 200.

Note:

We are now offering services in Waco, TX by appointment only. Please contact (512) 806-6531 or analig@americangateways.org to schedule an appointment.

If you or a family member or friend is detained and in need of services:

Please call (512) 478-0546 extension 204 and leave a message with the name of the detainee, the facility where the individual is detained and the A# (alien registration number) of the detained individual.

Services Provided

American Gateways is one of the largest immigration legal services providers in Texas. Our clients receive culturally sensitive, trauma-informed legal representation from start to finish of a case. Our staff are experts in the areas of:

  • Asylum (for individuals and families fleeing persecution in their home country)
  • Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA) Petitions (for battered spouses, parents, and/or children)
  • T Visas (for survivors of trafficking)
  • U Visas (for survivors of certain types of violent crimes that occurred in the U.S.)
  • Representation before the San Antonio Immigration Court
  • Permanent Residency and Naturalization
  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
  • Family-based Petitions

American Gateways is also the only nonprofit in the state to provide legal orientation, immigration workshops, and pro bono legal representation at four immigrant detention facilities.

Our Austin office serves the T. Don Hutto Residential Center in Taylor, Texas.

Our services are open to everyone who meets our income guidelines and case priorities.

We do not discriminate based on race, religion, nationality, gender, or sexual orientation.
