What is Mediation?
Mediation is a negotiated, problem-solving process facilitated by a trained third party neutral, the mediator. In mediation the mediator works with all parties to help create a realistic, lasting agreement that both parties can agree with. The goal is to find solutions and avoid the need for litigation or other legal action.
Who can be helped by mediation?
Almost any individual or business facing a conflict situation can use mediation. Since mediation is such a flexible process, it can be an appropriate way to deal with a wide variety of problems. Situations commonly heard at the DRC include, but are not limited to:
- Merchant/Consumer complaints
- Landlord/Tenant issues
- Employer/Employee problems
- Personal injury claims
- Organizational disputes
- Business disputes
- Real Estate contracts
- Divorce/Custody/Visitation
- Family/Friend disputes
- Neighborhood disputes
- Unpaid debt
- Contract disagreements
- Insurance claims
- Victim restitution
